On April 8, 2025, Saint John Region Chamber of Commerce, the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton, and Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce hosted a virtual town hall dedicated to strengthening Canada-US relations through elevating the conversation concerning the mutually recognized value of both nations.
Guest Speakers included:
– Minister of OpportunitiesNB, the Honourable Luke Randall
– Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Small Business and CEO of ONB, Traci Simmons
– President, Maine International Trade Centre, Wade Merritt
With over 300 registered guests the town hall represented members from across New Brunswick and Maine. The discussion underscored the deep interconnectedness of our economies, communities, and shared values, and demonstrated the unwavering commitment of our regions to fostering mutual prosperity and collaboration. Together, we explored the importance of preserving our long-standing partnership and the need to address challenges such as tariffs, economic disruptions, and border connectivity.
Key insights from the event included:
o Economic Impact of Tariffs: Participants highlighted how tariffs strain industries on both sides of the border, emphasizing the need for cooperative efforts to mitigate economic harm and maintain competitiveness.
o Collaborative Infrastructure Projects: The significance of joint initiatives, such as the Madawaska-Edmundston International Bridge, was celebrated as a model for future cooperation in enhancing cross-border connections.
o Shared Values: Attendees reaffirmed the commitment to upholding democratic and economic principles that benefit both nations on a global scale.
As chambers representing regions bound by geography and history, we stand ready to support efforts that strengthen Canada-US relations and promote the growth and success of our communities. This event serves as an example to the enduring partnership between New Brunswick and Maine, built on cooperation, resilience, and historically shared principles.
We will encourage constant dialogues and look forward to continuing this vital conversation. We invite everyone to join us in championing the values and opportunities that make our cross-border relationship so unique and impactful.
