Position Title:

Manager of Development and Membership Relations

Reporting Relationships:
Reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Overall Position Mandate:
The Manager of Development and Membership Relations plays a key role in advancing the Chamber’s strategic mission to celebrate business, champion business needs, and create community.
This position is responsible for membership growth, engagement, and retention; sponsorship and advertising sales; and relationship-building across the business community. The Manager works collaboratively with the Marketing, Events, and Advocacy teams to support Chamber campaigns, strengthen community partnerships, and enhance the organization’s visibility and impact.
The ideal candidate is a motivated, community-engaged go-getter with a sales background, a growth mindset, and a genuine passion for connecting businesses and driving results.

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Membership Growth, Retention, and Engagement
• Develop and implement quarterly sales and engagement plans aligned with the Chamber’s strategic and financial goals.
• Conduct outreach to prospective members and follow up on leads to achieve monthly and annual growth objectives.
• Maintain strong relationships with existing members to encourage active participation, satisfaction, and renewal.
• Conduct exit interviews with non-renewing members to identify trends, feedback, and opportunities for improvement.
• Personally contact members in arrears to encourage renewal and provide value-driven follow-up.
• Lead and support the Membership Committee, collaborating on strategies for member engagement, recruitment, and retention.
• Track, analyze, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to membership, retention, and sponsorship performance.

2. Sponsorship, Advertising, and Business Development
• Identify, secure, and manage sponsorship and advertising opportunities for Chamber events, programs, and communications.
• Develop customized sponsorship proposals that align with corporate objectives and Chamber programming.
• Build business-to-business (B2B) connections within the membership base, creating opportunities for collaboration and local economic growth.
• Work closely with the CEO to ensure revenue objectives for membership and sponsorship are achieved.

3. Marketing, Events, and Campaign Collaboration
• Work collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications team to:
o Create and implement integrated marketing campaigns for membership recruitment, retention, and Chamber events.
o Promote Chamber initiatives through email, website, and social media channels.
o Support the planning and execution of Chamber signature events, mixers, and member engagement activities.
• Actively participate in event delivery, ensuring sponsors and members receive excellent service and visibility.

4. CRM, Data Management, and Reporting
• Support the rollout and daily use of the new Chamber CRM system to manage membership and sponsorship pipelines.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date member and prospect information.
• Generate reports on membership growth, retention trends, and sponsorship performance for review by the CEO.
• Conduct and analyze member satisfaction surveys to inform service improvements and engagement planning.

5. Advocacy Awareness and Community Engagement
• Stay informed about current events, government policies, and local issues impacting the business community.
• Work closely with the CEO to identify and elevate advocacy issues or concerns raised by members.
• Support the Chamber’s advocacy initiatives by ensuring members are aware of the organization’s positions and priorities.
• Represent the Chamber at community, government, and business functions to strengthen relationships and increase visibility.
• Act as a connector and ambassador for the Chamber, fostering collaboration among members and stakeholders.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
• Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in membership development, sales, business development, or client relations—preferably in a Chamber or association environment.
Skills and Attributes
• Proven success in achieving or exceeding sales and KPI targets.
• Strong relationship management and communication skills.
• Excellent presentation and negotiation abilities.
• Proficient in CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and digital marketing tools.
