A new report finds industry and economic vulnerability from COVID-19 varies widely between New Brunswick counties.
"The capstone report, in a series of economic reports on the impacts of COVID-19 in Atlantic Canada, was developed by the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council (APEC) for the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce. It reveals how differences in industry and demographic factors may shape the recovery for the 47 counties and divisions in Atlantic Canada."

"Maestro Fresh Wes will host 'Maestro in the Maritimes' on 97.3 The Wave. The show will feature the best hip hop from the 90s and early 2000s. 'I'm glad we made an awesome decision for the family to be over here,' Maestro told Wake Up with Dan & Nesta on Friday about his decision to move to Saint John last fall. Maestro, born Wesley Williams, is one of the earliest Canadian rappers to achieve mainstream success."

"When Mohamed Bagha offers advice to a newcomer to Canada in their first language, he said it helps relieve the stress of a big adjustment amid a pandemic. Another hit for local businesses as Transport Canada extends its ban on cruise ships with 100 passengers or more through next February due to the pandemic.
"The one-year extension, announced Thursday, means no cruise ships will be making ports of call in Saint John for the second year. Jim Quinn, CEO of Port Saint John, said they were not surprised by this week's decision, which he described as inevitable."

Stanford is hopeful the arrival of Flair Airlines in May could signal the return of regular flights in Saint John.
"The Saint John Airport has been quiet for the last month, but its CEO Derrick Stanford is hopeful it can roar back to life in the spring. Flair Airlines announced Wednesday it would be making its debut in Saint John on May 1 after nearly a year of delays due to COVID-19. Stanford thinks the airline's arrival could signal to other companies like Air Canada that Saint John is safe for travel."

Mayor of Grand Bay-Westfield Grace Loisier said she doesn't anticipate any changes to the bylaw banning plastic bags ahead of its third reading on Feb. 22.
"Grand Bay-Westfield is one step closer to instating a ban on plastic bags, joining Quispamsis, Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview, along with Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. Grand Bay-Westfield town council held their first and second reading of the bylaw banning plastic bags on Monday night. The bylaw would prohibit businesses from providing plastic bags to customers at checkout, with some exceptions."

"A survey conducted by the (Fundy Regional Service) commission and the Saint John Region Chamber of Commerce late last year found 75 percent of businesses in the area support the banning of plastic bags."
