Business Community Support for Syrian Refugee Resettlement

Economic Development Greater Saint John and The Chamber, in collaboration with the Saint John Regional Y, have identified ways in which the Saint John business community can support resettlement efforts.

Here’s how you can help:

Be Part of Creating a Welcoming Community

  • Pick up a “Welcome to our Community” window decal – We have created window decals in English and Arabic for companies to post in their windows.  The welcome message will show the Syrian refugees that our businesses are safe places to visit and that we are here to help.  If you would like one, they will be available at the Business Centre at 40 King Street in the first week of January.

Buy a Bed

We anticipate the arrival of 500 Syrian Refugees to the Saint John region, and all families will need new beds.  We are looking for companies or individuals to buy a bed for $400 or to make a contribution towards the purchase of a bed. To pledge a bed, or contribute to the purchase of a bed, please contact Jennifer Kiervin at 658-2877 or External link opens in new tab or windowinfo@enterprisesj.com

Volunteer

The Y Newcomer Connections is currently accepting applications for individuals and teams to volunteer directly with Syrian Refugees.  They are urgently looking for 100 Welcome Teams made up of 3 – 5 people to support families over a 6-week period. To sign up as a welcome team or for a list of all the volunteer opportunities, please visit the Y Newcomer Connections website at External link opens in new tab or windowhttp://www.ymcanewcomers.com/#!volunteer/m995z

Thank you for all that you do to make resettlement in Saint John a positive experience. For more information about the resettlement effort, please visit the Saint John Newcomer Connections Website at External link opens in new tab or windowwww.ymcanewcomers.com .
